The first two responses to my "Discrimination?" post brings up that old double-standard for the "vertically gifted" who are in a relationship. That is, it's relatively acceptable for a tall man to be with a shorter woman, but some think it borders on freakish for a tall woman to be with a man who's shorter than her. I was reminded of it yesterday when I saw the news about the world's tallest man who just got married to a woman probably over 2' shorter than he is. That combination'll get some looks, but just think if the genders were reversed! I've got to admit that I do a double-take when I see a tall woman with a short man, but admittedly it's a selfish "Good Lord, woman, you should be with me!" reaction... Any opinions?

Gary, I am 53, still single, rent a room from a short, alcoholic, animal female, that does not like any men. I hope to move out, when I can find affordable housing, and may have to go to Illinois, to help my elderly parents, one with Alzheimer's. I have spent my adult life helping people, serving, doing hard jobs I didn't like, sacrificing for a lot of emotionally ill people. I see a tall woman near my age, and check for rings. I often ask if they are single. Most are married, or seeing someone, and some, say, they want no dating, or relationships with men, anymore. I here that over, and over! They've been married, or lived with someone out of wedlock, been there, done that, and don't ever want to date again. It is unfair, for us opld bachelors, who never had a chance to marry, have been waiting so long, only to find so many jaded, turned off tall ladies. Tall single gals are so rare, and in such demand. It really hurts, when it seems, none are interested.

I know that feeling of concern about being turned down by a tall woman. Women under 5'-9" are so common in number that you don't worry about rejection, but tall women seem so rare and desirable that it's better to have the fantasy of being with one than taking the risk of being turned down. These days I'm so wildly attracted to tall women that I have a "damn the torpedoes" attitude that compels me to make a beeline straight for them. Well, okay, part of it's the fact that I'm 50 and I feel I don't have time to dawdle anymore, but hey...
Regards, Gary

That makes perfect sense, actually. I think a lot of shorter men believe, either consciously or sub-consciously, that being with a taller woman increases their stature just by association. I had to laugh when I read your last sentence about not being sure whether your statement made sense because you were tired. Sometimes when I'm fatigued, the difference between incoherent rambling and a shrewd observation is razor-thin... ;-)

Amen from one Gary, to another! I am torn between being intimidated by a very tall woman, and fascinated. I had a chance to dance with a very sultry, tall lady, in high heels, last night, at a singles dance, but kept putting it off, and, when i was going to ask, a short man beat me to her, for her last dance, then, she, and her friends, left. Oh nuts!I let my fear of a tal woman, keep me from dancing, with one i was very attracted to. I think when we mean, sometimes are very attracted to a tall gal, we tend to be fearful of rejection, don't even try. I have been rejected by many tall women. Yes, we do tend to feel much more comfortable, around short, or average gals, partly because tall gals are such rare birds, and such a turn-on!

You see, guys that have your attitude, are explorers, inventors, soldiers, and just adventurous by nature!
The guys we've been talking about, that are asking us out; Hire someone to do that for them.lol
They also think, by having a stout woman(mentally/physically,) behind them, that it makes them the same way. Sort of like, they want to own, what they do not possess.
I don't know if that makes any sense at all.lol It's late.:)
Peace, Benita
Hi Gary,
Not having to stoop, is a biggg plus.lol

I suppose you're right about some tall men going with short women because it makes them feel more powerful or in control. Some guys just aren't all that secure.
As for me, I enjoy the challenge of being with a tall woman. I'm drawn to their allure, their aura of confidence and power, and I'm wildly fascinated rather than being intimidated by them. I particularly love it when we're eye-to-eye and lips-to-lips without having to bend over or stoop at all...
