Any riders out there with time available early July?

I am planning a ride from the Minneapolis Area to the West Coast.  All dates and times are flexible at this time, since I'm riding an older bike ('82 KZ750) and just setting out on a first of it's kind trip.
Highlights to include the Northern Tier of States to the Wenatchee WA area, down to Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, and a mostly direct return to the Upper Mid-West.  I'm thinking about 5,000 miles in the first two weeks of July.
I'm planning an occasional hotel, but otherwise camping along the way.  Any members who would like to join in part of this ride, or even just meet for coffee along the way are very welcome.

WOW, what a tour.
What I've learned about touring by bike could fill a book, from route selection to how to pack to weather and accomodations.  Since this was my first motorcycle trip of any length (4000 miles) it has opened my eyes to future possibilities.

Now, anyone interested in a 2013 summer trip?  It's time to think about these things.

Summer bike trips; continued

I had opportunity to test out the camping portion of the bike ride with a short (400 miles round trip) visit to see my daughter.  It rained most of the way up to her place, much of the night while camping out, and on the way home I had a big enough storm that staying with my son's family and out of the flash floods was a good plan.  The rainsuit works, the tarp over the bike and sleeping bag works, and I'll know when to stay in a hotel when I need to.
I used to do bicycle tourning, and my limit was how far I could ride between meals.  Kind of the "see food" diet when you can down 3,000 calories a day and not gain an ounce.  I've always been geneticly obnoxious.  Now I have the KZ, and it's opened up some real possibilities for travel, limited only by how far my BIKE can go between meals.  It's still a bit of a learning curve to plan a ride to the West Coast, so any input would be welcome from other members.

Shake down cruise this Memorial Day Weekend.  First destination will be St Cloud MN for Saturday night camping at an RV park.  Since we're probably working late Friday night I won't be in any hurry to get up there, and Sunday PM is a graduation party for my daughter.  Ride home after this, and see about riding the other direction out to the Chicago area.  Any riders in this area?
